A hotel situated in downtown Atlanta was evacuated on Friday due to a suspected carbon monoxide leak, which led to five individuals being taken to nearby hospitals for assessment, according to officials.

Emergency crews arrived at the Residence Inn by Marriott on Peachtree Street shortly after 9 a.m. to address the situation.

As reported by Atlanta Fire Rescue Assistant Chief Greg Gray, three adults and two children were transported to hospitals for observation due to potential carbon monoxide exposure.

In response to the leak, the gas line was turned off, and the fire department later conveyed that the situation was under control and stable through a social media update.

This hotel is housed in the historic Rhodes-Haverty building, which was once the tallest structure in Atlanta when it opened its doors in 1929, standing at 21 stories high.
