Rangers snap 4-game losing streak with 2-1 win over Bruins as Zibanejad and Berard score, Quick makes 32 saves

NEW YORK — The New York Rangers secured a much-needed victory over the Boston Bruins on Thursday night, winning 2-1 and putting an end to a four-game losing streak. Mika Zibanejad and Brett Berard both found the net in the first period, while Jonathan Quick delivered an impressive performance in goal, making 32 saves and earning his 399th career win.

This victory marked the Rangers’ first home win since December 6, and it came as Quick stepped in to replace the injured starter, Igor Shesterkin. Jonathon Quick’s steady play was crucial to the win, as he helped the team improve their home record to 8-9-1 this season, a stark contrast to last year’s impressive 30-11-0 performance at Madison Square Garden.

On the other side, Elias Lindholm contributed the only goal for Boston, while Jeremy Swayman recorded 25 saves in net. The Bruins continued to struggle, having lost three out of their last four games, which puts their road record at 8-10-2.

Zibanejad opened the scoring at 9:48 in the first period, deftly tapping a loose puck past Swayman, marking his seventh goal of the season and his second since November 30. Berard extended the Rangers’ lead to 2-0 with a goal at 7:07 remaining in the opening period, netting his third of the year.

The Bruins responded with a goal from Lindholm at 7:57 in the second period, which gave them a glimmer of hope. However, it was Quick’s remarkable sequence of saves about seven and a half minutes into the second that stood out, as he denied shots from Boston’s Mark Kastelic, Justin Brazeau, and John Beecher.

In terms of milestones, Zibanejad’s first-period goal marked the 301st of his career, as well as his 700th point, showcasing his continued impact on the ice. This season, the 31-year-old forward has accumulated 22 points over 37 games.

Looking ahead, the Bruins are set to visit Toronto on Saturday, while the Rangers will take on the Capitals in Washington. The recent victory indeed provides a much-needed boost for New York as they aim to maintain momentum moving forward.
