WELLINGTON, New Zealand — NASCAR competitor Shane van Gisbergen emerged unscathed from a multi-car incident during a dirt track event at the Auckland speedway on Thursday.
Van Gisbergen, who is associated with Trackhouse Racing and drives the No. 88 Chevrolet ZL1 in the NASCAR Cup series, was participating in a sprint car race held at the Western Springs Speedway.
During the race, the cars of American driver Jonathan Allard and New Zealander Michael Pickens collided at the front of the pack, leading to a chaotic aftermath in which van Gisbergen’s vehicle became trapped against the wall.
Fortunately, all drivers involved in the crash were unharmed, though one spectator did require medical attention for minor injuries.
Earlier this year, on December 26, van Gisbergen was also uninjured in a less severe crash at the Baypark Speedway in Tauranga.
