WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. — Donald Trump is set to host a significant rally in Washington, D.C. on January 19, just a day before he takes the oath of office as the 47th president of the United States.
The event, which is being promoted as a “Victory Rally,” will take place at the Capital One Arena, with Trump known for preferring this kind of informal gathering where he can engage directly with his supporters through humor and spontaneous remarks. The formal inauguration ceremony is scheduled for January 20 at the U.S. Capitol.
An email sent to his supporters highlights the upcoming rally: “This is President Trump’s VICTORY RALLY the DAY before being sworn in as the 47th President — the crowd needs to be HUGE!”
This indoor rally comes in response to security concerns that following a serious assassination attempt led to restrictions on Trump’s outdoor events. The arena has a capacity of around 20,000 attendees.
Security measures will be robust for the event, as the inauguration is categorized as a national special security event, allowing for the allocation of federal resources and improved coordination with local law enforcement agencies.
Trump has extended invitations to international leaders, including Chinese President Xi Jinping, for his inauguration—a departure from tradition that could introduce a range of perspectives from both allies and rivals into this significant American political affair. However, it remains uncertain whether any leaders will actually participate.
As he prepares to take office, Trump has committed to launching a substantial deportation initiative immediately after his inauguration. Furthermore, he plans to impose significant tariffs on the U.S.’s primary economic competitors, namely China, Canada, and Mexico, unless these countries take more effective measures to curtail illegal immigration and the trafficking of substances such as fentanyl into the U.S. He has also promised to take decisive action to bring an end to Russia’s prolonged conflict in Ukraine.
