ALLEN PARK, Mich. — Detroit Lions linebacker Alex Anzalone took part in a walkthrough practice on Wednesday, marking a positive step in his recovery from a broken forearm.
“He’ll be participating and running around,” commented Lions head coach Dan Campbell. “Tomorrow will be crucial for us in gauging his readiness.”
Anzalone has been sidelined since he sustained the injury to his left forearm on November 17 during a victory against Jacksonville. This season, he has accumulated 56 tackles, placing him fourth on the team, following his status as the franchise leader in tackles for the previous two seasons.
This weekend, the Lions (14-2) are set to clash with the Minnesota Vikings (14-2) on Sunday night in Detroit. The stakes are high, as the winner of this matchup will secure the NFC North championship, gain home-field advantage throughout the conference playoffs, and earn a bye week. Conversely, the losing team will enter the playoffs as the NFC’s No. 5 seed and will have to start their postseason journey on the road.
In other injury news, the Lions observed running back David Montgomery (knee) and cornerback Emmanuel Moseley (illness) sit out the team’s first practice of the week. There is optimism surrounding Montgomery’s potential return in time for the playoffs.
The Lions have classified Anzalone as limited in practice due to his injury, alongside linebacker Jack Campbell (rib) and cornerback Amik Robertson (calf).
On a positive note, punt returner and wide receiver Kalif Raymond has been cleared to participate in practice again. He has been recovering from a foot injury sustained on November 24 during a game against Indianapolis.
Raymond had notable contributions earlier this season, including one of his two touchdown receptions in a significant win against Minnesota in October. The week prior, he made headlines with a spectacular 90-yard punt return for a touchdown and also caught a score during a striking six-minute burst in the third quarter against one of his former teams.
