CULLOWHEE, N.C. — In an impressive display of skill, Nick Anderson scored 20 points as Furman triumphed over Western Carolina with a commanding 90-61 victory on Wednesday night, marking their sixth consecutive win.
Anderson showcased his shooting ability by hitting 7 of 11 attempts from the field, including 4 of 5 from beyond the arc, contributing significantly to the Paladins’ robust performance. His teammates also shone brightly; Charles Johnston added 17 points and collected seven rebounds, while Eddrin Bronson chipped in with 12 points, going 4 for 8 overall, including two three-pointers, and completing two of three from the free-throw line.
On the other side, Western Carolina (4-8, 0-1) was led by Bernard Pelote, who registered a double-double with 17 points and 12 rebounds. Brandon Morgan supported the team with 14 points and four assists, while Chevalier Emery also contributed with 11 points to the Catamounts’ efforts.
Furman (13-1, 1-0 Southern Conference) established a strong lead early in the game, with Anderson scoring 12 points in the first half to help the team secure a 43-23 advantage as they headed into halftime. The Paladins further increased their lead in the second half with a swift 10-2 run, pushing a 15-point margin to 23 points. Johnston was pivotal during this stretch, leading the team with 12 points in the final half.
