Highland Heights, Ky. — In an exciting overtime matchup, Trey Robinson led Northern Kentucky to a thrilling 69-68 victory over Purdue Fort Wayne on Wednesday, scoring 26 points and hitting a personal-best five shots from beyond the arc.
Robinson also contributed significantly on the boards with eight rebounds, helping the Norse improve their record to 8-7 overall and 3-1 in the Horizon League. Sam Vinson chipped in with 13 points, shooting 5 of 13 from the field, including 2 of 7 from three-point range, while also securing eight rebounds and dishing out six assists. Hubertas Pivorius added 12 points with an impressive shooting performance, going 4 of 7 from the field and making four out of six attempts from the three-point line.
For the Mastodons, Quinton Morton-Robertson stood out with 19 points and two steals, while Jalen Jackson contributed 17 points along with three steals. Maximus Nelson also played a crucial role, scoring 15 points in the contest.
The game was tightly contested, and Nelson’s corner three brought the score to a deadlock at 62 with just 21.6 seconds remaining in regulation. As the clock ticked down before overtime, Northern Kentucky’s final attempt resulted in the ball getting stuck between the backboard and the rim, leaving the teams tied at the end of regulation.
In the decisive moments of overtime, Vinson passed to Keeyan Itejere, who executed a layup to give the Norse a narrow 69-68 lead with only 11.1 seconds left on the clock. However, Rasheed Bello’s attempt at a three-pointer for the Mastodons fell short, sealing the victory for Northern Kentucky.
