ISTANBUL — On New Year’s Day, a massive crowd, estimated in the tens of thousands, converged on Istanbul’s Galata Bridge to show their support for Palestinians in Gaza.
The gathering featured demonstrators brandishing both Turkish and Palestinian flags while chanting “Free Palestine.” This event was organized by the National Will Platform, which comprises over 300 pro-Palestinian and Islamic organizations.
During the protest, Bilal Erdo?an, son of President Recep Tayyip Erdo?an, addressed the attendees, highlighting the need for backing Gaza and denouncing Israel’s military actions in the region. He drew parallels to the situation in Syria, referencing the recent fall of Syrian President Bashar Assad by rebel forces.
“Muslims in Syria were determined, patient, and ultimately achieved victory. Following Syria’s triumph, Gaza will also break through the siege victoriously,” he declared.
Aerial footage revealed the impressive turnout, showcasing a sea of people filling the bridge along with surrounding areas like Eminönü and Sirkeci.
President Erdo?an has consistently voiced strong criticism against the Israeli military operations in Gaza, reinforcing the sentiment expressed during the protest.
