Olean, New York – In a thrilling finish, Melvin Council Jr. made a decisive layup with just three seconds left on the clock, propelling St. Bonaventure to a narrow 77-75 victory over VCU on Tuesday evening, extending the Bonnies’ winning streak to seven games.

Council had an impressive performance, contributing 20 points and grabbing eight rebounds for his team (13-1, 1-0 in the Atlantic 10 Conference). Teammate Noel Brown matched Council’s scoring output, also netting 20 points with an efficient shooting display, hitting 8 out of 13 field goal attempts and converting all four of his free throws. Jonah Hinton added 16 points to the scoreboard, supporting the Bonnies’ strong offensive play.

On the other side, Phillip Russell shone for the Rams (10-4, 0-1), leading his team with a remarkable 26 points. Joe Bamisile contributed 13 points along with eight rebounds, while Max Shulga rounded out the scoring with 11 points and four assists.
