ADDISON TOWNSHIP, Mich. — A tragic series of events has unfolded in the Detroit suburbs, resulting in the deaths of a husband and wife just days apart following separate incidents during the holiday season.

Scott Levitan, aged 66, was taken off life support on Tuesday after suffering a serious accident while fishing on a small lake north of Detroit. According to reports from the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office, the incident occurred on Thursday when Scott fell through the ice while trying to fish.

Approximately a day later, Mary Lou Levitan, also 66, lost her life in a car accident. Authorities believe she was on her way to retrieve her husband’s vehicle, which had been left at the scene of the earlier incident, at the time of the collision.

The accident involving Scott occurred while he was drilling a hole in the ice with his 15-year-old grandson. The ice gave way beneath them, causing Scott to plummet into the frigid waters below. His grandson quickly dialed 911 for help but sadly fell into the lake as he attempted to save his grandfather. Fortunately, a nearby resident witnessed the situation and successfully helped the teenager back onto the ice, while others were able to assist in rescuing Scott from the water.

After the rescue, Scott was transported to a hospital for care but unfortunately did not survive. His grandson received medical treatment and has since been released.

In a separate incident, Mary Lou was riding in the backseat of a car that was hit head-on by another vehicle that had crossed over the centerline on a road in Oakland County. The investigation into this unfortunate crash is currently ongoing, as officials seek to determine the circumstances surrounding the accident.

The Levitan family resided in Livonia, a suburb located to the west of Detroit, and their untimely deaths have shocked the community.
