Andrew Carr nets 14 points, Otega Oweh contributes 13 as No. 10 Kentucky defeats Brown 88-54

College Basketball Recap

In a dominating performance, the No. 10 ranked Kentucky Wildcats defeated Brown 88-54 on Tuesday night in Lexington, Kentucky. Andrew Carr was instrumental in the first half, contributing all of his 14 points before the break, while Otega Oweh added a solid 13 points, including a strong showing after halftime.

Oweh scored 11 points in total after the intermission, netting seven points during the early minutes of the second half, which helped the Wildcats extend their lead to 52-32 with just over 15 minutes remaining. Along with Carr and Oweh, Amari Williams and Koby Brea each chipped in 13 points, solidifying Kentucky’s scoring attack.

Kino Lilly Jr. led the Brown Bears with 16 points, but struggled to find his rhythm throughout the game. Despite hitting two three-pointers, Lilly was unable to maintain the scoring pace he typically set, as he entered the matchup averaging four three-pointers per game, ranking third nationally.

Key insights from the game revealed Brown’s struggles, particularly with ball control, as they surrendered 23 turnovers that resulted in a staggering 33 points for Kentucky. Moreover, the Bears’ shooting performance from beyond the arc was disappointing, as they converted only 2 of their 12 attempts in the first half.

Conversely, Kentucky was in dire need of a victory following a disappointing loss to Ohio State just before Christmas. The Wildcats, who had a tough SEC schedule looming, didn’t start strong, initially trailing 4-2 at the first media timeout and suffering a 10-rebound deficit in the first half.

A significant turning point occurred after a sluggish start when Brown took a brief 6-4 lead. Carr ignited a crucial 15-3 run for Kentucky, scoring seven consecutive points that helped them take a 15-7 lead. By the end of the first half, Kentucky had built a comfortable lead of 37-21.

Interestingly, both teams exhibited identical shooting percentages in the first half, each hitting 11 of their 26 attempts, which amounted to 42.3%. However, Kentucky’s ability to sink more three-pointers and capitalize on free throw opportunities proved pivotal in the outcome of the game.

Looking ahead, Brown will host Johnson & Wales on Sunday, while Kentucky is set to kick off their SEC play at home against sixth-ranked Florida on Saturday.
