TORONTO — In a significant move aimed at boosting their performance in the Professional Women’s Hockey League, two teams have executed a noteworthy player trade. The Ottawa Charge and the Toronto Sceptres, both positioned at the bottom of the league standings with the same record of two wins, three losses, and one overtime loss, completed a four-player exchange on Monday.
The Charge have welcomed forward Victoria Bach and defenseman Jocelyne Larocque from the Sceptres, sending forward Hayley Scamurra and defenseman Savannah Harmon in return.
General manager of the Ottawa Charge, Mike Hirshfeld, spoke about the challenges associated with making trades, stating, “Trading any player is a difficult decision. Savannah was our first-ever first-round draft pick, and we appreciate all that she did for our organization and wish her the best of luck with Toronto. Hayley will always be remembered as the first player to score a goal for the Ottawa Charge.”
Bach has contributed three goals and three assists over 22 games across two seasons with the Sceptres, having been chosen in the seventh round of the league’s inaugural draft. On the other hand, Larocque, selected second overall by Toronto, has recorded one goal and 11 assists in her 29 games with the team.
From the Charge, Savannah Harmon has netted three goals and provided nine assists over the course of 30 games. She was a notable pick in the first round, selected fifth overall in the initial PWHL Draft. Meanwhile, Scamurra, taken in the fifth round by Ottawa, has made her mark with five goals and five assists across 30 games.
This trade reflects both teams’ intentions to revamp their squads in hopes of improving their standings as the league progresses.
