    Hugo Sotil, a former forward known for his significant contributions to both the Barcelona football club and the Peruvian national team during the 1970s, passed away on Monday at the age of 75.

    According to reports from the Dos de Mayo hospital in Peru, Sotil succumbed to complications from kidney and liver failure. He had been receiving treatment in an intensive care unit since December 19, battling multiple organ failure and septic shock.

    Throughout his career, Sotil was instrumental in helping the Peruvian national team achieve remarkable feats, including reaching the quarterfinals of the FIFA World Cup in both 1970 and 1978. He was also part of the squad that secured the Copa America championship in 1975.

    During his time at Barcelona, which lasted from 1973 to 1976, Sotil had the privilege of playing alongside legendary player Johan Cruyff. Together, they contributed to the team’s success, which included winning the Spanish league title.

    Sotil’s legacy in football continues to be celebrated, as he is remembered for his exceptional skills and contributions to the sport during a vibrant era for both club and country.
