Banks scores 28 to help UMBC defeat American 96-93 in double overtime

Marcus Banks delivered an outstanding performance with 28 points, while Anthony Valentine secured the victory for UMBC with a clutch layup just 24 seconds before the end of double overtime, leading the team to a thrilling 96-93 victory over American on Sunday evening.

Alongside Banks, who also recorded nine rebounds, Bryce Johnson contributed significantly to the Retrievers’ success with 19 points, showcasing an impressive shooting accuracy of 8 for 12 from the field and a perfect 3 for 3 from the foul line. Josh Odunowo rounded out the scoring for the team with 18 points, hitting 7 of his 12 attempts and converting 4 of 6 free-throws.

On the opposing side, Matt Rogers was a standout for the Eagles, scoring a remarkable 33 points while also grabbing 10 rebounds, providing five assists, and blocking two shots. His teammate, Matt Mayock, added 17 points to the scoreboard, while Geoff Sprouse contributed 15 points along with five assists during the intense matchup.
