LAS VEGAS — On Saturday night, UNLV triumphed over Fresno State with a final score of 87-77, thanks in large part to Dedan Thomas Jr., who netted 21 points and provided six assists for the Rebels. This victory marks an important step for UNLV, improving their record to 7-5 overall and 1-0 in the Mountain West Conference. Jailen Bedford contributed significantly as well, scoring 18 points while shooting 5-for-9 from the floor, including 3-for-4 from beyond the arc, and excelling at the free-throw line by converting 5 of 6 attempts. Jaden Henley also had a commendable performance, finishing with 15 points after hitting 6 of his 8 field-goal attempts.
Leading the Bulldogs, who now sit at 4-9 overall and 0-2 in conference play, was Jasir Tremble with 19 points. Mykell Robinson had a noteworthy all-around performance as well, scoring 18 points while also securing eight rebounds and dishing out seven assists. Additionally, Jalen Weaver made a contribution with 14 points to the team’s tally.
UNLV dominated the first half, heading into halftime with a significant lead of 48-30, where Bedford emerged as the leading scorer for the Rebels with 10 points before the break. However, in the second half, Fresno State outscored UNLV by eight points, with Thomas leading his team in scoring after halftime, managing to secure 12 points.
The Bulldogs have faced challenges recently, suffering back-to-back losses and winning only once in their last eight games. Looking ahead, both teams have games scheduled for Tuesday, as UNLV prepares to take on Air Force while Fresno State is set to host New Mexico.
