TUCSON, Ariz. — Snoop Dogg took to the top of the bandstand, raising his arms in excitement and igniting cheers from the audience. The marching bands kicked off a lively rendition of “Who Am I,” with the famous rapper swinging and moving to the rhythm of his own music.
As far as bowls go, this event surpassed the ordinary offerings of mayonnaise baths, edible Pop-Tarts, or even a national championship. The spectacle of Snoop Dogg leading the halftime festivities for the game named in his honor was truly something special.
“What an incredible experience,” commented Chuck Martin, coach of Miami of Ohio.
In recent years, Snoop Dogg has become a ubiquitous figure thanks to a vast entertainment empire that spans across multiple platforms. Initially gaining fame as a rapper, he has expanded into acting in films and television, becoming a character in video games, endorsing various products, owning a record label, producing wine, and promoting his famous gin and juice.
His involvement with football has been ongoing, ranging from coaching youth teams to serving as a guest analyst, and he even established the Snoop Youth Football League in Southern California. Following in the footsteps of personalities like Jimmy Kimmel and Rob Gronkowski, he entered the celebrity bowl sponsorship scene, delivering a vibrant and entertaining experience at the Snoop Dogg Arizona Bowl, presented by Gin & Juice by Dre and Snoop.
During the game, Martin’s Miami RedHawks secured a victory over Colorado State with a score of 43-17, but Snoop Dogg undeniably remained the star of the show.
Arizona Stadium showcased a true Snoop vibe, featuring a striking mural of a low-rider against a desert backdrop in one end zone and a Snoop Dogg logo on the opposite side. On game day, the atmosphere was all about Snoop. He caught passes during warmups from Miami’s equipment manager and visited a tailgate to enjoy some gin and juice, drawing cheers as he walked out for the coin toss, outfitted in a green-and-gold Arizona Bowl tracksuit, sunglasses, gray sneakers, and sparkling jewelry.
Snoop exchanged greetings with team captains from both squads, flipped the coin stylishly, and even posed for a photo with officials before making his way to Colorado State’s sideline, where he put on a headset to call a few plays.
In between quarters, he attempted to operate a T-shirt cannon, although the shirts barely traveled far before he decided to stop. He also enjoyed a performance from a group of Native American artists before returning to the booth to join the TV broadcast. “This is something I do every day, man,” he said during the show. “I guess I’m the people’s champ because I love the people just as much as they love me.”
And he certainly lived up to that title.
Snoop returned to the field for a halftime chat with Coach Martin, later taking center stage to lead the school bands in a medley of his songs. After a spell in a luxury suite, he was back in the broadcast booth for the game’s final quarter, where a small camera captured his reactions from a corner of the screen.
The grand finale was a sight to behold. With Miami’s players gathered around a makeshift stage, Snoop Dogg cruised in style in a light green Chevy Impala adorned with gold rims and accents, hoisting the shiny Arizona Bowl trophy as fans erupted in cheers. Following the trophy presentation, he handed out gold chains to the players and took photos, all while security assisted him in exiting the stadium, treating him like the rock star he is.
“Thank you, Tucson,” Snoop declared. “Thank you for having me.”
The joy and excitement from the crowd were unmistakable, making it clear that the feeling was mutual.
