SAN DIEGO — UC San Diego showcased their dominance on Saturday night with a resounding victory, defeating Occidental College from Division III by a score of 109-51. Tyler McGhie emerged as a standout player, scoring 24 points to lead the Tritons in their comprehensive win.
In addition to his scoring prowess, McGhie contributed significantly across the board with five rebounds. Aniwaniwa Tait-Jones also had an impressive performance, netting 16 points while displaying efficiency, hitting 6 of 8 shots and converting 3 out of 4 free throws. He also made a mark on defense, recording three steals. Nordin Kapic provided further support by scoring 15 points, shooting 5 of 9 from the floor, including 2 of 5 from beyond the arc, and sinking 3 of his 4 free-throw attempts. This triumph marked the Tritons’ tenth consecutive victory, solidifying their strong position this season.
On the other side, Occidental’s Nasir Luna was the leading scorer for the Tigers, finishing the game with 17 points. Teammate Henry Wilson added to the effort with 11 points and pulled down six rebounds. Nicky Clotfelter also contributed with five points, but the team struggled to keep pace with the Tritons throughout the contest.
