FAIRFAX, Va. — Jalen Haynes recorded an impressive performance with 18 points, leading George Mason to a 64-56 victory over Mount St. Mary’s on Saturday.
In addition to his scoring, Haynes dominated the boards, securing 16 rebounds for the Patriots, who improved their record to 9-4. Darius Maddox contributed to the win by scoring 13 points, aided by a shooting performance of 5-of-11 from the field, including 1-of-5 from beyond the arc, while also converting 2-of-3 free throw attempts. Brayden O’Connor added nine points, showcasing his ability with a 2-of-5 shooting performance, going 2-of-3 from 3-point land and 3-of-4 from the charity stripe.
For the Mountaineers, now 8-5 overall and 1-1 in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference, Dola Adebayo was the standout player, finishing with 13 points and seven rebounds. Terrell Ard Jr. made significant contributions as well, with a stat line of 11 points, nine rebounds, four assists, and two blocks. Arlandus Keyes chipped in with seven points to round out the scoring for Mount St. Mary’s.
Haynes set the tone early by scoring 11 points in the first half, although George Mason entered halftime trailing by a small margin, with a score of 30-28. The turning point came in the second half when George Mason launched a 10-3 run, overcoming a three-point deficit to lead 34-30 with 17:54 left in the game. Maddox helped to secure the lead, contributing nine points in the second half to facilitate the team’s comeback and eventual victory.
Looking ahead, George Mason will face Davidson on Tuesday at home, while Mount St. Mary’s will host Niagara on Sunday.
