ATLANTA — In a dominating performance, Georgia Tech triumphed over Alabama A&M with a convincing score of 92-49 on Saturday, highlighted by Lance Terry’s impressive 22 points and Javian McCollum’s 18 points coming off the bench.
Jaeden Mustaf contributed significantly with 13 points, along with seven rebounds and six assists, while Baye Ndongo added 10 points, six rebounds, and four assists for the Yellow Jackets, now with a record of 6-7. Throughout the game, Georgia Tech showcased their offensive strength, shooting 54% overall and connecting on 10 out of 21 attempts from beyond the arc.
The Yellow Jackets had a stellar first half where they shot an impressive 60% from the field, resulting in a substantial 50-point tally before halftime. In the second half, however, they focused more on their defensive strategies.
Georgia Tech stifled Alabama A&M’s scoring efforts by not allowing them a field goal for the first 5 minutes and 45 seconds post-intermission. The Bulldogs struggled significantly during this period, converting only 3 out of their first 12 three-point attempts and missing 18 of their first 21 shots overall. Their only two-point basket of the half came from Darius Ford, who managed a jumper with just 4:22 left on the clock, leaving the Bulldogs at a dismal 5-for-30 shooting performance in the second half.
For Alabama A&M, Bilal Abdur-Rahman scored 11 points, being one of the few bright spots in an otherwise challenging game. AC Bryant also contributed with 11 points, but collectively, the Bulldogs finished with a mere 16% shooting percentage in the second half and 21% overall for the game.
Georgia Tech’s offensive prowess in the first half, where they made 6 of 13 three-point shots, enabled them to secure a commanding lead of 50-25 at halftime, with McCollum being the standout player with all of his points coming during this period.
With an ACC record of 0-2, the Yellow Jackets are set to host Notre Dame on Tuesday as conference play continues.
