Wembanyama records 19 points, 7 rebounds, and 6 blocks in Spurs’ 96-87 victory against Nets

NEW YORK — Victor Wembanyama showcased his skills with a total of 19 points, seven rebounds, and six blocks during the San Antonio Spurs’ victory over the Brooklyn Nets, winning 96-87 on Friday evening.
Julian Champagnie contributed significantly with 18 points, while Keldon Johnson added 15 points alongside six rebounds, assisting the Spurs in snapping a two-game losing streak.
On the opposing side, Keon Johnson emerged as the standout performer for Brooklyn, leading the game in scoring with 25 points. Shake Milton supported the effort with 16 points and 12 assists, but the team’s struggles continued as they faced their ninth loss in the last 12 games.
Highlighting key aspects of the game, San Antonio faced a rough start shooting only 27.5% in the first half. However, they rebounded impressively in the second half, converting 21 of 37 attempts, resulting in a shooting percentage of 56.7%.
Brooklyn had a challenging outing, particularly being the second game in a back-to-back scenario. Additionally, they were missing their primary scorer Cam Johnson, due to a hip contusion, and assist leader Ben Simmons, who was being rested for lower back maintenance. The Nets struggled offensively, achieving a season-low point total with a field goal percentage of just 38.9%.
A pivotal moment of the match occurred in the third quarter when Wembanyama, after a subdued first half with only four points, exploded for 11 points and nailed three 3-pointers during a remarkable 22-9 run, turning a two-point deficit into a commanding 69-58 lead for the Spurs.
There was a moment of concern when Wembanyama had to leave the game briefly after receiving an accidental head butt from Jalen Wilson, leading him to the locker room with 4:43 remaining. Despite his absence, San Antonio managed to outscore Brooklyn 12-8 during that stretch, ultimately concluding the quarter 33-21 in their favor. Wembanyama later confirmed he cleared the concussion protocols.
An impressive statistic to note is that Wembanyama has now recorded four or more blocks in five consecutive games. He also continues to impress by registering at least one 3-pointer and one block in each of his last 22 games.
Looking ahead, San Antonio will face Minnesota on Sunday, while Brooklyn prepares to travel to Orlando on the same day.
