EL SEGUNDO, Calif. — The Los Angeles Chargers have received positive news, as running back J.K. Dobbins has been activated from injured reserve and may make his return during the upcoming game this weekend.
Dobbins has been sidelined for four games due to a knee injury he incurred late in the first half of a 30-23 defeat against the Baltimore Ravens on November 25. With a record of 9-6, the Chargers are aiming to secure their second playoff appearance in three years with a victory over the New England Patriots on Saturday.
Before his injury, Dobbins ranked fourth in the AFC for rushing yards, totaling 766. He boasted an impressive average of 4.8 yards per carry, placing him seventh among all NFL running backs with at least 150 carries. Dobbins is a strong contender for the AP Comeback Player of the Year award after he suffered a torn Achilles tendon during the opening game of the previous season.
Despite facing several setbacks during his four-year tenure with the Ravens, the second-round draft pick from 2020 opted to sign a one-year contract with the Chargers to revitalize his career.
His anticipated return comes at a crucial time, as Los Angeles has struggled in the running game without him. In the last four games, the Chargers have averaged just 74.8 rushing yards, a sharp decline from the 118.1 yards they accumulated prior to Dobbins’ injury.
In addition, the Chargers elevated safeties Eddie Jackson and Kendall Williamson from the practice squad in preparation for Saturday’s game, further enhancing their roster depth as they look to clinch their playoff spot.
