MIAMI — Jimmy Butler will miss the last two games of the Miami Heat’s current road trip as he continues to recover from an illness, the team announced on Friday.
This confirms that Butler will be sidelined for the match against Atlanta on Saturday and the game in Houston on Sunday. The earliest he could return to the court is for the home game against New Orleans on Wednesday.
Butler has not participated in any games since he was injured in the first quarter of Miami’s matchup against Oklahoma City on December 20. After twisting his ankle, he left the game and was subsequently ruled out due to illness. The Heat have played three games since then without their star player, with two of those being due to his illness and one occurring on Thursday, which he missed while training back in Miami in preparation for his return.
He is currently not traveling with the team during this road trip.
On Thursday, the Heat made it clear that they have no intentions of trading Butler. This announcement comes after ESPN reported, citing unnamed sources, that the six-time All-Star had expressed a desire to be moved before the trade deadline on February 6.
However, Butler has not openly stated any willingness to be traded. For the ongoing season, he is averaging 18.5 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 4.9 assists per game.
