BOSTON — On Monday, the Red Sox announced the completion of a two-year agreement with left-handed pitcher Patrick Sandoval, who is currently in recovery following elbow ligament surgery.
At 28 years old, Sandoval made 16 starts with the Los Angeles Angels during the previous season, where he recorded a 2-8 win-loss record along with a 5.08 ERA. His season took a downturn when he sustained a torn UCL during a game against the Los Angeles Dodgers on June 21 while throwing a pitch to his former teammate, Shohei Ohtani.
Just five days after the injury, Sandoval underwent internal brace surgery, which typically requires a recovery period of at least one year. Throughout his six seasons in Major League Baseball, all with the Angels, Sandoval has accumulated a record of 19 wins and 45 losses, with a career ERA of 4.01 across 100 starts and seven appearances out of the bullpen.
In addition to his MLB service, Sandoval represented Mexico in the 2023 World Baseball Classic, where he made a significant impact, finishing with an impressive 1-0 record and a 1.23 ERA over two starts. His performance earned him a selection to the All-WBC team, highlighting his skills on the international stage.
