CLEVELAND — A significant delay of 35 minutes occurred during the Cleveland Cavaliers’ matchup against the Utah Jazz when a malfunctioning basketball hoop and stanchion needed replacement.
The game, initially scheduled to tip off at 7:10 p.m. on Monday, was held up as technicians at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse worked to level the hoop that the Utah team had warmed up on. However, since they were unable to rectify the issue, it was determined that a complete replacement of the basketball apparatus was necessary.
To keep the enthusiastic crowd entertained during the interruption, Cavaliers center Jarrett Allen showcased his shooting skills by attempting three backward half-court shots in tandem with the team’s mascot, Moondog. Allen managed to score a basket on his third attempt, much to the delight of the fans.
In accordance with NBA regulations, each team is mandated to maintain at least one fully functional hoop and stanchion in storage at their arena to avoid similar delays during games.
