DALLAS — Luka Doncic made a successful return to the court after missing two games due to a left heel contusion, scoring 27 points in the Dallas Mavericks’ commanding 132-108 win over the Portland Trail Blazers on Monday evening.
The All-Star guard described his performance as “OK,” stating, “Nothing really special.” Alongside his points, Doncic contributed with seven rebounds and seven assists in just 30 minutes of play. “The important thing was we got the win. I think everybody was involved, and that’s how we’ve got to play,” he noted.
The Mavericks showcased a strong team effort, as five players reached double-digit scoring. This victory marks their 14th win in the last 17 games, bringing their record to 19-10, currently placing them fourth in the Western Conference.
Doncic started the game slow, missing his opening shot, a three-pointer, and ending the first quarter with only one made basket out of six attempts. His long-range shooting struggled early, finishing 1 for 7 from beyond the arc.
However, he came alive in the second quarter, netting 10 points, including three and-1 plays during the first half. Mavericks coach Jason Kidd praised Doncic, saying, “He knows how to use his body to position himself. He knows the space that he has to get to, and he does it at a very high level. So, if it’s not an and-1, he’s going to the free throw line. For him being out, getting to the free throw line was important just to get his rhythm.”
With Doncic back in action, the Mavericks look to build on this victory and continue their push in the competitive Western Conference.
