Florence, Italy – Inter Milan secured a 2-0 victory against Como, reinforcing their position in third place in Serie A and narrowing the distance to the league leaders, Atalanta and Napoli, on Monday.
Carlos Augusto opened the scoring with a header from a corner in the 48th minute, putting Inter ahead.
Marcus Thuram then added the second goal in stoppage time with a powerful shot that hit the roof of the net.
This match marked the first top division encounter between these teams since 2003. Despite Inter’s strong season, having lost only once in the league, they found it challenging to dominate 15th-placed Como.
Nevertheless, the team secured a comfortable win without needing to exert themselves significantly, allowing them to move just three points behind leaders Atalanta and only one point behind Napoli. It is worth noting that Inter has a game in hand compared to both clubs.
In another match, Fiorentina missed the opportunity to climb to fourth place after suffering a 2-1 defeat against Udinese at home.
Fiorentina had previously recorded an impressive eight consecutive Serie A victories but was halted in their tracks by a 1-0 loss to Bologna on December 15. Things seemed to be on the upswing when Moises Kean scored a penalty in the eighth minute, becoming the first Fiorentina player to reach ten goals in the league since Federico Chiesa during the 2019-20 season.
However, after halftime, Udinese stepped up their game. Lorenzo Lucca leveled the score just four minutes into the second half due to some careless defending, and Florian Thauvin soon put Udinese ahead, curling in a shot from the edge of the box eight minutes later.
As a result, Udinese climbed to ninth place, while Fiorentina remained in fifth.
This match was particularly significant for Edoardo Bove, a Fiorentina player whose recent heart issue led to the postponement of a game against Inter Milan on December 1.
After receiving a defibrillator implant, Bove sat on the bench for Fiorentina for the first time since his incident.
While he is not yet cleared to play, his presence on the sideline alongside coach Raffaele Palladino represented a hopeful return to normalcy for the young midfielder.
