HAMILTON, N.Y. — In a competitive matchup on Sunday, Iona triumphed over Colgate with a score of 79-73, largely thanks to Dejour Reaves, who scored 20 points in the game.
Reaves made significant contributions beyond scoring, pulling down nine rebounds and recording six steals for the Gaels, who now hold a record of 4-8 overall and 1-1 in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference. Teammate Yaphet Moundi also shone, contributing 13 points on an efficient 6 of 8 shooting, along with five rebounds. Adam Njie added 12 points to the effort, shooting 5 of 11 from the field, and had some struggles from the line, making just 1 of 4 attempts.
On the other side, the Raiders struggled, but Nicolas Louis-Jacques kept them in the game, leading all scorers with an impressive 27 points. Jalen Cox also made a noteworthy contribution with 16 points, four assists, and two steals, while Parker Jones added seven points and recorded two steals himself.
Reaves made an impact early on, scoring 11 points in the first half as Iona managed to hold a slim lead of 36-32 at halftime. In the second half, Iona created some separation with a 7-0 run, extending their lead to 43-35 with 16:42 remaining. They maintained that momentum to secure the victory.
Looking ahead, Iona will face Harvard in their next game at home on Sunday, while Colgate will have a quick turnaround, hosting Army on Thursday.
