In West Sacramento, California, the Athletics have officially signed third baseman Gio Urshela to a one-year deal valued at $2.15 million.
This contract includes the opportunity for Urshela to earn up to an additional $450,000 through performance-related bonuses tied to his number of plate appearances.
Specifically, he stands to gain $100,000 for reaching 300, 350, 400, and 450 plate appearances, along with a $50,000 bonus if he hits 500.

The addition of a competent third baseman was critical for the A’s as they prepare their roster for at least the next three seasons while playing in West Sacramento, where they aim to establish a new ballpark before potentially relocating to Las Vegas.
At the age of 33, Urshela concluded last season with a batting average of .250, alongside nine home runs and 52 RBIs while playing for both Detroit and Atlanta, where he earned $1.5 million.
Renowned for his defensive skills, Urshela has had a solid nine-year tenure in the Major Leagues, previously playing for teams including the New York Yankees, Cleveland, Toronto, Minnesota, and the Los Angeles Angels.

In addition to Urshela’s signing, the Athletics notably added left-handers Jeffrey Springs and Jacob Lopez last weekend through a multiplayer trade with the Tampa Bay Rays, aimed at strengthening their pitching rotation.
Earlier in the month, they also completed a $67 million, three-year agreement with right-handed pitcher Luis Severino, reflecting the franchise’s commitment to enhancing its roster for future success.
