BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — In a tightly contested matchup on Saturday night, Portland State edged out Cal State Bakersfield with a narrow score of 59-58, thanks in part to the performance of Isaiah Johnson, who contributed 14 points to his team’s victory.
Johnson also grabbed six rebounds, helping the Vikings improve their season record to 7-5. His contributions were vital, but he wasn’t alone; Jaylin Henderson added 12 points, with an off shooting night that saw him make just 3 of 8 attempts, including struggles from beyond the arc where he went 0 for 3. However, he performed well at the charity stripe, converting 6 of 8 free-throw attempts. Cole Farrell chipped in with another 11 points, shooting 5 of 8 from the floor.
On the other side, Fidelis Okereke led the Roadrunners with 15 points along with two steals, showcasing his defensive and offensive skills. Jaden Alexander contributed nine points, and Corey Stephenson made notable contributions with eight points, seven rebounds, and four steals.
As the game drew to a close, Stephenson successfully sank two free throws with just 41 seconds remaining, bringing the intensity up a notch. He then intercepted a pass from Qiant Myers merely 30 seconds later, but missed a layup followed by a tip-in attempt as time expired, leaving the Roadrunners just short of victory.
