FRESNO, Calif. — In an exciting showdown on Saturday night, Dominique Daniels Jr. shone brightly, scoring 29 points to lead Cal Baptist to an 86-69 triumph over Fresno State.
In addition to his scoring prowess, Daniels also racked up three steals for the Lancers, who improved their record to 6-6. Bradey Henige was instrumental as well, finishing the game with 12 points on an impressive 5 of 6 shooting from the field. AJ Braun added depth to the team’s performance, contributing 11 points after hitting 5 of 7 attempts.
The Bulldogs, now with a 4-8 record, saw Zaon Collins stepping up as the top scorer with 14 points along with six assists. Mykell Robinson made a significant impact on the boards, pulling down nine rebounds while scoring 13 points. Jalen Weaver also chipped in with 10 points, but it wasn’t enough to secure a win.
The game painted a vivid picture of momentum, as Cal Baptist claimed the lead just 38 seconds before halftime and maintained control thereafter. Heading into the locker rooms, the score was a tight 36-35 in favor of Cal Baptist, with Daniels contributing nine points by that point. The Lancers surged in the second half, pulling ahead with an 11-3 run that expanded their lead from seven to 15 points. Dominating the final period, Cal Baptist outscored Fresno State by 16 points, with Daniels once again leading the charge, scoring 20 points in the second half alone.
Both teams are set to return to action next Saturday, with Cal Baptist preparing to host Jackson State, while Fresno State will be on the road to take on UNLV.
