LUBBOCK, Texas — Darrion Williams delivered an impressive performance with a season-high 23 points, while freshman Christian Anderson contributed a personal best of 20 points as Texas Tech easily defeated Lamar with a score of 101-57 on Saturday.
Williams showed his shooting prowess, hitting 7 of 13 attempts, including four three-pointers. Along with his scoring, he also registered seven rebounds and five assists. Anderson came off the bench, showcasing his effectiveness by making 8 of 10 shots, which included two three-pointers, while also grabbing five rebounds.
In addition to Williams and Anderson, Chance McMillian had a solid outing, scoring 19 points with six rebounds after connecting on 7 of 11 shots, featuring three three-pointers. Kevin Overton, coming in from the bench, added another 17 points along with six rebounds, while Eemeli Yalaho contributed 13 points and five rebounds to the Red Raiders’ dominant performance.
For the Cardinals, who now have a record of 6-6, Alexis Marmolejos led the team with 11 points, and Ja’Sean Jackson added 10 points. However, Lamar struggled on the road, falling to 4-3 away from home.
By halftime, Williams and Overton both tallied 13 points each, propelling Texas Tech to a significant 49-22 lead. The team’s momentum carried into the second half, where they stretched their advantage to 30 points just over two minutes in. Texas Tech surpassed the 100-point mark for the first time this season when Anderson made a jumper with 36 seconds left in the game.
The Red Raiders showcased remarkable shooting, achieving 55% from the field, connecting on 13 of 29 three-point attempts (44.8%), and making 16 of 18 free throws. The Cardinals, in contrast, managed only 33% shooting, with 6 of 20 from beyond the arc and 5 of 9 at the charity stripe.
Looking ahead, Lamar is scheduled to take on Texas A&M-San Antonio on December 30, while Texas Tech will host Central Florida on New Year’s Eve.
