GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Dallas Wilson, a former five-star wide receiver from Tampa who had initially committed to Oregon, is receiving significant attention from the University of Florida. After observing Florida’s impressive win over Tulane in the Gasparilla Bowl in Tampa, Wilson took an official visit to Gainesville where he enjoyed a basketball game featuring the Gators against North Florida.
During his visit, Wilson sported royal blue attire, including shorts, a beanie, and Jordan-brand sneakers, as he witnessed Florida dominate the match, securing a lopsided victory with a score of 99-45. Wilson, standing at 6 feet 3 inches tall, showcased his impressive statistics from his recent season at Tampa Bay Tech, where he recorded 41 receptions for 677 yards and scored nine touchdowns. Initially, Wilson committed to Oregon in January 2023, but following the death of his mother later that year and his grandmother’s ongoing illness, he sought to transfer closer to home.
Bringing Wilson on board would significantly enhance Florida coach Billy Napier’s recruiting efforts, especially as their recruiting class surged by about 40 places, reaching No. 11 in the final composite rankings from 247 Sports. The Gators have also added former UCLA receiver J. Michael Sturdivant through the transfer portal, joining a robust recruiting class that features receivers Vernell Brown III, Naeshaun Montgomery, and Muizz Tounkara.
Furthermore, Wilson’s agent is Vernell Brown Jr., a former Gators player who has previously collaborated with Napier in a player development capacity. With the team needing to fill the gaps left by starting receivers Chimere Dike and Elijhah Badger, both of whom transferred to Florida last season, Wilson could play a crucial role. Dike led the team with 42 catches for 783 yards and two touchdowns, while Badger recorded 39 receptions for 806 yards and four touchdowns.
In summary, Dallas Wilson’s recruitment marks a pivotal opportunity for Florida’s football program, as they aim to bolster their receiving corps ahead of the upcoming season.
