MUNICH — Bayern Munich delivered a stunning performance against Leipzig, securing a dominant 5-1 victory that shattered a long-held Bundesliga record for quick goals on Friday.
In a historic start, both teams found the net within the opening two minutes of the match. Bayern’s Jamal Musiala opened the scoring just 28 seconds into the game, quickly followed by a response from Benjamin Šeško, who equalized only a minute later.
As the initial rapid pace settled, Bayern continued to assert their dominance. Konrad Laimer, facing his former team, restored the lead with a goal in the 25th minute. Displaying impressive technique, Laimer volleyed home from the right side, leaving goalkeeper Péter Gulácsi with no chance.
Just nine minutes later, Joshua Kimmich made a remarkable contribution by striking from almost 30 meters, extending their lead to 3-1. Leroy Sané then netted the fourth goal with 15 minutes remaining, before Alphonso Davies capped the scoring three minutes later with his first league goal of the season.
Harry Kane made his return to the pitch after missing two games due to a hamstring injury. Although he showed some signs of rustiness, he played 87 minutes in a match that was vital for Bayern to regain momentum after a challenging period.
Bayern Munich had initially started the season strong, winning eight consecutive matches from late October through late November. However, they faced difficulties in their next five outings, which included two losses and one draw, notably a 2-1 defeat to Mainz last week — marking their first Bundesliga loss of the season.
With this latest win, Bayern has extended their lead over reigning champions Bayer Leverkusen to seven points. Leverkusen’s next challenge comes against Freiburg on Saturday.
