LUSAKA, Zambia — Authorities have apprehended two individuals on accusations of conspiring to employ witchcraft against President Hakainde Hichilema, according to police reports released on Friday.

The police spokesperson, Rae Hamoonga, provided details in a statement, identifying the arrested suspects as Jasten Mabulesse Candunde, 42, and Leonard Phiri, 43. The two detained individuals are charged with the practice of witchcraft, illegal possession of charms, and animal cruelty.

Hamoonga elaborated that the suspects were discovered with a variety of charms, which notably included a live chameleon, and that they are claimed to be individuals practicing witchdoctors. The police noted that their alleged objective was to inflict harm on the Head of State, President Hakainde Hichilema, using these charms.

Additionally, the spokesperson revealed that the suspects confessed to having agreed upon a contract which promised them a total payment of $7,400 for their services.
