MANHATTAN, Kansas — Ayoka Lee made a significant impact in the game against New Mexico State, scoring 19 of her total 34 points before the halftime break. Alongside her impressive performance, Serena Sundell added 18 points to help lead No. 13 Kansas State to a convincing victory, with a final score of 83-39 on Wednesday night.
Standing at 6-foot-6, Lee showcased her shooting prowess by completing 14 of her 18 shots and securing 11 rebounds. With this performance, she is now just three double-doubles away from claiming the second spot in Big 12 history for career double-doubles.
Molly Kaiser was the standout player for New Mexico State, contributing 15 points throughout the game. Lee initiated the scoring with a couple of layups followed by a single made foul shot. Kaiser quickly equalized for the Aggies with a 3-pointer and a jumper, making the score 5-5. However, Lee’s third layup triggered an impressive 10-0 run for Kansas State, allowing them to jump ahead 19-7 by the end of the first quarter.
In the second quarter, the Aggies improved their offense, registering 15 points. Harding particularly performed well, shooting 3-for-4 and adding seven points. Despite this, the Wildcats still outpaced them by four points, ending the half with a score of 38-22.
After halftime, Kansas State continued their dominance by outscoring New Mexico State a staggering 28-7, pushing their lead to 66-29. In this third quarter alone, Lee was a force, outscoring the entire Aggies team with 11 points while making all three of her shot attempts and connecting on 5 of 7 free throw attempts.
Looking ahead, the Aggies will host Eastern New Mexico, a Division II team, on Friday. Meanwhile, Kansas State, which has now achieved a perfect 9-0 record at home this season, will begin Big 12 play against Cincinnati this Sunday.
