FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga.
— The Atlanta Falcons have officially placed kicker Younghoe Koo on injured reserve, a move announced on Wednesday, and have brought in kicker Riley Patterson from the Cleveland Browns’ practice squad to take his place.
Koo has been dealing with a right hip injury for most of the season, although the team did not specify whether this injury is the reason for his extended absence from the field.
On Tuesday, following the Falcons’ narrow 15-9 victory over the Las Vegas Raiders, head coach Raheem Morris indicated that Koo had sustained an injury during the game, saying he “kind of hurt himself a little bit.”
The Falcons have also released kicker Tanner Brown from their practice squad as part of their roster adjustments.
Riley Patterson has a solid track record, hitting 59 of 67 field goal attempts throughout his professional career with various teams including the New England Patriots, Detroit Lions, Jacksonville Jaguars, Cleveland Browns, Washington Commanders, and New York Jets.
Patterson was initially signed by the Falcons to their practice squad in preparation for a Week 13 matchup against the Los Angeles Chargers when Koo’s availability was uncertain prior to pregame warmups. However, he ended up being inactive for that particular game after being elevated to the active roster.
