TOWSON, Md. — A shooting incident, which was followed by a fiery car crash on Tuesday night in a suburban region north of Baltimore, resulted in one fatality and left nine others injured, according to police reports.
Authorities stated that gunfire was audible throughout the neighborhood near the site where the vehicle ultimately crashed outside a funeral home, which seemed to be closed at the time. Baltimore County Police Chief Robert McCullough addressed the media, indicating that few specifics about the shooting’s nature have been disclosed, but the investigation suggests it may have been a targeted act.
McCullough mentioned, “It seems that those involved were acquainted in some capacity, indicating that this event was both deliberate and focused.” Investigators have yet to clarify the condition of the nine individuals who were taken to the hospital; it remains uncertain if all of them sustained gunshot wounds.
In addition, some bullets struck the facade of the funeral home, while authorities received multiple reports of gunfire from other areas as well. Chief McCullough characterized the ordeal as “an ongoing, rolling type of gun situation that ultimately concluded at the funeral home.” When law enforcement arrived in response to the gunfire alerts, they discovered the burning vehicle overturned.
Baltimore County Executive Johnny Olszewski emphasized the commitment of his administration to support police and fire investigators with essential resources to uncover the details of the incident. “This occurrence is deeply disturbing, especially for those of us in Baltimore County,” he remarked. “Events of this nature are rarely seen here; it truly shocks the community.”
