COLLEGE PARK, Md. — In a commanding performance, Selton Miguel contributed significantly to Maryland’s resounding 111-57 win against St. Francis (PA) on Tuesday night, netting 24 points and sinking four 3-pointers. The Terrapins (9-2) bounced back after their recent 83-78 defeat to No. 8 Purdue in their Big Ten Conference opener. Miguel demonstrated remarkable efficiency, hitting 10 of 13 shots and dishing out four assists in the match, helping Maryland boost their home record to an impressive 8-1.
Julian Reese also shone brightly for Maryland, achieving a double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds, marking his fourth such performance this season. The Terps showcased a well-rounded scoring attack, with Rodney Rice adding 16 points, Derik Queen contributing 15 points and securing five rebounds, and Ja’Kobi Gillespie recording 11 points alongside six assists. From the bench, Jayhlon Young made a noticeable impact, scoring nine points while making all three of his attempts from beyond the arc.
On the other side, Juan Cranford Jr. led the Red Flash (4-8) with 21 points, hitting three shots from three-point range. Jeremy Clayville came off the bench to add 11 points, but St. Francis struggled on the road, now holding a record of 1-7.
Maryland surged ahead by halftime, leading 55-29, and Miguel had already accumulated 17 points by the break. St. Francis initially took the lead with back-to-back 3-pointers from Clayville, followed by a layup from Miles Webb, making the score 21-17 with just over ten minutes left until halftime. However, Maryland quickly regained control, unleashing an 8-0 run with contributions from Queen and Gillespie, who hit a three-pointer. From that moment, the Terrapins were in the driver’s seat for the rest of the contest.
Maryland’s scoring onslaught carried them past the century mark when Malachi Palmer connected on a 3-pointer with just 3:15 left in the game. Looking ahead, Maryland is set to face Syracuse in the Gotham Classic on Saturday at Barclays Center in New York, while St. Francis will play host to Franciscan on Thursday.
