All-Pro safety Budda Baker inks three-year extension with the Cardinals, keeping him with the team until 2027

TEMPE, Ariz. — Budda Baker, a two-time All-Pro safety, has officially signed a three-year contract extension on Tuesday that keeps him with the Arizona Cardinals through the 2027 season.

At 28 years old, Baker’s new deal is reported to be valued at $54 million, which includes $30 million guaranteed, as reported by various sports networks.

Since being selected in the second round of the NFL Draft out of the University of Washington in 2017, Baker has been an integral part of the Cardinals’ defense for the last eight seasons. This year, he continues to showcase impressive form, having started all 14 games thus far as the team aims to secure a playoff position for the first time since 2021.

Currently, Baker ranks second in the league with a remarkable total of 142 tackles this season. Over his impressive eight-year career, he has accumulated a league-leading 861 tackles among all NFL defensive backs, which includes 600 solo tackles.

Head coach Jonathan Gannon has consistently praised Baker’s contributions to the team. He has served as a captain for the Cardinals for each of the past five seasons, establishing himself as a veteran leader in the locker room. The future of Baker with the franchise had become a significant topic of discussion, especially since his previous contract was set to expire at the end of this season.
