Female passenger who hid on flight to Paris detained once more in Buffalo

BUFFALO, N.Y. — A 57-year-old Russian woman, Svetlana Dali, who made headlines for stowing away on a flight from New York City to Paris, has found herself in trouble once again after being arrested in Buffalo, according to officials.

Dali was expected to appear in federal court in Buffalo on Tuesday afternoon, as communicated by Barbara Burns, a representative from the U.S. attorney’s office for western New York.

The incident that brought her to authorities’ attention began on November 26 when she allegedly slipped through security at John F. Kennedy International Airport and managed to board a Delta Air Lines flight heading for Paris. Upon arrival in France on November 27, she was met by local law enforcement who detained her right at the gate.

Dali, who holds legal residency status in the U.S., was subsequently returned to New York, where she faced charges of stowing away in federal court in Brooklyn on December 5. During her bail hearing the next day, Magistrate Judge Joseph A. Marutollo permitted her release under electronic monitoring conditions, stipulating that she must reside at the home of a Philadelphia man she had met through church and adhere to a curfew.

Details concerning the reasons behind her recent arrest in Buffalo remain undisclosed by federal prosecutors. Attempts to obtain a statement from Michael Schneider, her attorney from the previous court proceedings in Brooklyn, have gone unanswered.
