The prestigious AP FCS All-America team has been revealed, showcasing top talents from the Championship Subdivision, including standout players like Montana State’s quarterback Tommy Mellott and Southern Utah’s running back Targhee Lambson. Both Mellott and Lambson are finalists for the Walter Payton Award, recognizing the most exceptional player in the FCS. Joining them on the first team are defensive lineman David Walker from Central Arkansas, defensive end Jeremiah Grant from Richmond, and cornerback TJ Moore from Mercer, who are all contenders for the Buck Buchanan Award for top defensive player.
Mellott has been instrumental in leading the FCS’s most potent offense, contributing to an impressive 40 touchdowns for the Bobcats as they prepare to host South Dakota in a national semifinal this Saturday. Additionally, offensive lineman Marcus Wehr from Montana State has once again secured a place on the first-team roster, marking his second consecutive selection. In a closely contested voting for the top quarterback, Mellott narrowly beat North Dakota State’s Cam Miller by just one vote, with Miller also being a finalist for the Payton Award. This weekend, Miller will bring 28 touchdown passes and the second-best completion rate in the FCS (72.9%) into his home semifinal match against South Dakota State.
The All-America team selections were determined by a dedicated panel comprising sports information directors and writers covering FCS football.
