ROME — Inter Milan dominated Lazio with a resounding 6-0 victory in a Serie A match held on Monday, as they scored four goals within a remarkable 12-minute span around halftime. This defeat was particularly surprising given Lazio’s strong home record in the league, where they had remained unbeaten on their own turf.
The first half of the match saw both teams battling it out evenly at the Stadio Olimpico, but things shifted dramatically just before the break. Hakan Çalhano?lu converted a penalty kick in the 41st minute, putting Inter on the scoreboard. Seconds later, Federico Dimarco extended the lead by finishing a beautiful cross from Denzel Dumfries, sending the teams into halftime with Inter ahead 2-0.
Lazio’s defensive lineup was affected by the absence of regular defender Alessio Romagnoli, which altered their strategy. Replacing Matias Gila with Samuel Gigot early in the first half was a tactical move, but Gigot’s exit at halftime necessitated yet another reshuffling of the defensive line. This lack of stability and experience became evident when play resumed.
Inter continued their relentless attack in the second half, with Nicolò Barella stunning the crowd with a spectacular volley from about 30 meters out, scoring in just six minutes after the restart. Barely two minutes later, Denzel Dumfries found the back of the net himself, heading in Inter’s fourth goal.
In the 77th minute, Carlos Augusto exhibited some impressive footwork in the penalty area to score, marking the fifth goal. The final blow came just before the whistle, as Marcus Thuram netted his 11th goal of the season, further compounding Lazio’s woes in front of their home supporters.
The victory propelled Inter to third place in the Serie A standings, just three points behind leaders Atalanta and one point shy of Napoli, although they still have a game in hand. Meanwhile, Lazio remains in fifth position, looking to bounce back from this heavy defeat.
