AUGUSTA, Ga. — A soldier from the National Guard has been charged with murder following a shooting incident that resulted in a man’s death over the weekend, subsequently leading to a lockdown at a military installation in Georgia.

Natravien Landry, aged 25, appeared in federal court on Monday where he faced murder charges stemming from a shooting that took place Saturday morning at a residence located on Fort Eisenhower, where he is part of a transportation unit within the Georgia National Guard.

Following the incident, commanders at Fort Eisenhower, which hosts the U.S. Army Cyber Command, initiated a lockdown that lasted for two hours. While details were sparse, officials confirmed that a suspect had been apprehended in connection with what they described as an “isolated” shooting death at the Army base near Augusta.

According to an affidavit from an Army investigator filed in court, Landry was on duty Saturday and decided to take a break at the home of a former girlfriend located on the base. He confronted another man who had been staying the night and then allegedly shot him fatally.

The identity of the victim has not been publicly disclosed by Fort Eisenhower officials, as he was referred to only by initials in the affidavit prepared by investigators.

Landry’s attorney, David Stewart, did not respond to inquiries made via phone and email on the same day as the court appearance.

After the shooting, Landry reportedly fled in a vehicle and was later apprehended by sheriff’s deputies in Meriwether County, approximately 180 miles away from the base. The affidavit notes that he discarded a 9mm handgun from the window of his car during the police stop and confessed to the shooting when questioned by an Army investigator.
