Florida Atlantic University’s board of trustees is poised to endorse a substantial agreement worth $22.5 million over 15 years that would grant Flagler Credit Union the naming rights to the university’s football stadium.
This agreement, notable for both its overall value and annual average, is set to be the largest publicly disclosed naming rights deal among institutions in the American Athletic Conference that feature an on-campus facility.
A special meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, during which the naming rights proposal will be a focal point of discussion. FAU’s athletic director, Brian White, is anticipated to present the sponsorship plan for board approval. Following the meeting, the athletic department has arranged a news conference to reveal a significant announcement, although details regarding this announcement remain undisclosed.
Should the deal receive the green light, the stadium will be known as Flagler Credit Union Stadium. The playing field will retain its name honoring Howard Schnellenberger, who was FAU’s inaugural head coach and instrumental in establishing the football program in the late 1990s.
This proposed agreement marks the second key development for FAU football this month. On December 2, the team announced the hiring of Zach Kittley, who served as Texas Tech’s offensive coordinator for the preceding three years, as their new head coach. Kittley’s contract is reported to be a $6 million agreement for five years.
Additionally, the sponsorship deal includes various multimedia rights related to football, as well as men’s and women’s basketball. FAU is set to bear the initial $150,000 expense for new signage that features the stadium’s updated name, with any further expenses subsequently shared between the university and the credit union.
