FLORENCE, Italy — Fiorentina’s midfielder Edoardo Bove expressed his gratitude and positivity following a life-altering experience after collapsing during a match against Inter Milan on December 1. In his first public remarks since the incident, Bove revealed that he is “feeling good” and acknowledged the tremendous support he received from fans, teammates, and even opponents during his recovery period.
In an Instagram post on Monday, he reflected on the significance of this challenging time, stating, “It’s in moments like these that I understand how genuine this sport truly is and how, beyond the results, competition and rivalries, we are all connected.” He emphasized the strength of the bonds that are formed in the world of football, particularly during difficult circumstances. “I have experienced it firsthand in these last few days: the affection I’ve received, the warmth of the fans, the support from teammates and opponents and the closeness of the ENTIRE football world gave me incredible strength and courage,” he noted. Bove mentioned feeling enveloped by a wave of positive energy that contributed to his emotional resilience during this ordeal.
After spending a few days in the hospital, the 22-year-old was discharged this past Friday. However, his ability to return to the game could be jeopardized depending on whether he will need a defibrillator to manage his heart condition. In Italy, regulations prohibit athletes from competing if they have a defibrillator implanted.
There is hope for Bove’s future in football, as he might follow the path of former Inter Milan star Christian Eriksen. Eriksen successfully resumed his professional career in the English Premier League after suffering a cardiac arrest while playing for Denmark in the 2021 European Championship, for which he required a defibrillator.
Bove remains optimistic about his prospects, stating, “I’m feeling good and that’s the most important thing! See you soon… On the pitch!” He made the move to Fiorentina on loan from Roma in August and has the option for a permanent transfer.
