In addition to Watson’s efforts, four of her teammates also contributed significantly to the scoring. Backup forward Celia Riviere added 12 points, along with eight rebounds and four assists, while Jordan Harrison scored 11 points, marking a milestone as she surpassed 1,000 career points, in addition to securing seven rebounds and seven assists for the Mountaineers (10-1). Ja’Naiya Quinerly and Syndey Shaw both chipped in with 11 and 10 points, respectively.
The Mountaineers displayed an overall shooting percentage of 42% and were able to convert 9 out of their 25 attempts from beyond the arc. West Virginia entered halftime with a solid lead of 31-21, which they consistently built upon in the second half. They closed the third quarter with a 52-36 advantage, and their lead swelled to as much as 24 points thanks to an 8-0 run late in the final quarter.
On the opposing side, Tiarra East led the charge for Temple (5-4), scoring 15 points and collecting seven rebounds. However, the Owls struggled offensively, shooting just 24% throughout the game and hitting only 6 of their 22 attempts from three-point territory (27%).
West Virginia’s only setback this season came against No. 6 Texas, where they lost 78-73. The Mountaineers are set to kick off their Big 12 conference play against Colorado on Saturday.
