NEW ORLEANS — Zach Ertz, the tight end for the Washington Commanders, exited Sunday’s match against the New Orleans Saints due to symptoms associated with a concussion.
Ertz sustained the injury while executing a one-handed catch, which required him to stretch across the field. Unfortunately, he hit his head on the ground as he was tackled hard from behind by safety Will Harris at the 4-yard line of the Saints.
Although this impressive catch allowed Jayden Daniels to connect with Terry McLaurin for a touchdown pass, giving Washington a 14-0 advantage, Ertz was seen walking unaided to the locker room shortly after. It wasn’t long before he was declared out for the remainder of the game.
The 34-year-old veteran is in his 13th season in the NFL, having played at Stanford before entering the league. Prior to this game, Ertz ranked as Washington’s second-most productive receiver, having accumulated 52 receptions for a total of 501 yards and four touchdowns.
During his brief time in the game against the Saints, he managed to add two more catches for 25 yards before leaving the field due to his injury.
