ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Jovan Milicevic contributed significantly to the New Mexico Lobos’ victory, netting 21 points from the bench in their dominant 122-70 win against Western New Mexico, a Division-II team, on Saturday afternoon.
Milicevic also grabbed six rebounds and recorded three steals for the Lobos, who improved to an 8-3 overall record and 1-0 in the Mountain West Conference. Braden Appelhans was another key player, scoring 18 points while making five of his eight attempts from three-point territory and hitting three of four from the charity stripe. Filip Borovicanin added 13 points to the tally, converting five out of nine shots, including one of four from beyond the arc.
On the other hand, Carson Kelly was the standout for Western New Mexico with 14 points, five assists, and two steals. Teammate Aiden Wall matched his effort with another 14 points, while Isaiah Marin chipped in with 13 points.
The Lobos took control of the game with about 12 minutes remaining in the first half and maintained their dominance throughout the contest. Appelhans played a pivotal role in the first half, contributing 12 points to help establish a commanding 60-37 lead by halftime. The second half saw New Mexico extend their advantage dramatically, going on an impressive 22-0 run that increased their lead from 22 to 44 points. Milicevic led the scoring surge in the second half, accounting for 19 of the team’s points and helping them outscore Western New Mexico by 29 points in the final period.
