ANN ARBOR, Mich. — Olivia Olson was a standout for No. 20 Michigan, contributing 15 of her 22 points in the first half as the team cruised to a 100-54 victory against Detroit Mercy on Saturday.
The Wolverines excelled early, going a perfect 12-for-12 from the free-throw line in the first quarter, which helped them establish a significant 27-9 lead. Olson continued to shine in the second quarter, scoring 11 more points as Michigan built their advantage to 59-27 by halftime.
In addition to Olson’s impressive performance, Te’ya Delfosse added 13 points, while both Macy Brown and Brooke Quarles Daniels chipped in with 11 points each. For the Titans, Aaliyah McQueen led the scoring with 15 points, and Emaia O’Brien contributed 11 points.
Throughout the game, Michigan exhibited strong shooting, making 13 of their 18 attempts in the second quarter alone, which included three made 3-pointers, ultimately achieving a shooting percentage of 55% overall and 50% from beyond the arc. The Wolverines were relentless on defense, forcing 23 turnovers that led to 37 points, and they also dominated the boards with a 45-34 rebounding advantage.
In contrast, Detroit Mercy struggled with their long-range shooting, managing to hit only 5 of their 21 attempts from 3-point territory, resulting in a shooting percentage of just 31% for the game.
The Wolverines displayed their prowess further in the third quarter with an 11-0 scoring run, capped off by Quarles Daniels converting a three-point play in the final seconds, which set the score at 82-38.
Looking ahead, Michigan is set to face No. 10 Oklahoma at the Jumpman Invitational in Charlotte, North Carolina, on Tuesday.
