COLUMBIA, S.C. — In a strong performance on Saturday, South Carolina secured a 73-53 victory over South Carolina Upstate, led by Nick Pringle who contributed 19 points to the team’s success.
Collin Murray-Boyles recorded a notable double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds, marking his third consecutive game achieving this feat. In his prior two matchups, he averaged an impressive 18 points and 12 rebounds while shooting an outstanding 70.8% from the field (17 of 24).
Further supporting the Gamecocks, Jamarii Thomas scored 11 points, while Jacobi Wright added 10 points to the total.
With a 35-28 lead at halftime, South Carolina gained momentum in the second half. Murray-Boyles initiated the scoring with a layup, followed by Pringle’s dunk and a three-pointer from Wright, which extended the lead to 42-30. From that point, the Gamecocks maintained a double-digit advantage for the rest of the game.
On the other side, Breylin Garcia led South Carolina Upstate with 14 points off the bench. Unfortunately, none of the starting players managed to reach double figures, and the team struggled from beyond the arc, hitting only 1 of their 10 attempts from three-point range.
A concerning moment occurred when Upstate’s Brit Harris experienced a severe fall after completing a fast-break dunk near the end of the first half. The 6-foot-4 junior’s feet slipped, leading to a hard landing on his neck and head. Immediate medical assistance was called for, and he was transported off the court on a stretcher.
Fortunately, the university later confirmed through social media that Harris had been discharged from the hospital and was on the path to recovery.
